Menstrual cramps and medication
Submitted by Mrs Hayes on Wed, 2007-05-02 09:18.Many of our female students are having problems with menstrual cramps at school. The newest doctor recommendation is to have them start taking ibuprophen or tylenol even a day before they start menstrating so keeping a diary can be helpful. Ibuprophen can be irritating to the stomach so it must be taken as recommended and you may want to have your child take an antacid along with it. You may want to ask a pharmacist for an antacid recommendation. Your child may NOT take these medications at school unless it is dispensed by the nurse, there is a permission slip signed by the doctor and the parent, and the medication is brought to school with the child's name on it. I am more than willing to dispense these medications with proper authorization. You may want to discuss this option with your child.
