The sixth graders learned how to sew buttons. They were so excited to make their own pin cushions! They started their sewing projects last week. First they cut the fur, then they pinned the pattern pieces together, and then they started to sew. Watch for their finished projects to be coming home soon.

The seventh graders are also working on their first project from boxers, sweatpants, pjs, to capris. They have been pinning and cutting! This week they started to sew on the machines.

The eighth graders have also been very busy. The advance sewing classes are making hats, sweatshirt, pants, t-shirt and many more items.

The 6th and 7th grade will be preparing a cookbook for their classes. Here is a slide presentation of some of the recipes.

WELCOME TO LINCOLN HALL ART '07-'08

Welcome to Lincoln Hall ART!  Please check here often while your child is in Art class (or Film Studies or Video Tech) to see what is going on. I will try to include some pictures of what we are doing in class (since a picture is worth 1000 words), once I figure out how to do that.  You may of course call or email with any questions you have regarding Art and anything art related.  My phone number is (847) 745-3854, and my email address is amaccrimmon@sd74.org Thanks!

Orchestra News, April 2007

Students Select Music for May Concert
Members of the Concert Orchestra have finalized their selections for the May 8 Spring Awards Concert. They will perform "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent, and music from the movie soundtrack "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

Students are also performing assessments as part of the 4th quarter schedule. I have attached this year's Assessment Schedule for your information!

Finishing up 3rd Quarter assessments

Concert Orchestra members are finishing two assessments as we conclude 3rd quarter on Thursday, March 22.

During lessons this week, each student is performing a two-octave C Major scale. I'm listening for Intonation (is it in tune), Tone Quality (how beautiful is your sound) and Fluency (does it look/sound easy). The Intonation category is worth 40%, Tone Quality is worth 30%, and Fluency is worth 30%. This scale counts as 10% of the total grade for the 3rd quarter.

We will be doing our Fingerboard Quiz, also for the two-octave C Major scale, during orchestra rehearsals this week. This morning students filled it out as a pre-test; anyone who "exceeds expectations" (as noted on the rubric) will not need to do it again later this week.

C Major is a fairly common key for orchestra music, but it is not as familar to students as D Major or G Major. One of our Organizational Contest pieces was in the key of C Major (Wagner's "Entrance and March" to Tannhauser). Our Grand Finale piece for our May 8 concert is also partially in C Major: Plink Plank Plunk by 20th century American composer Leroy Anderson.
