Niles West Middle School Competition 4-17-08

The Niles West Contest consists of three individual tests.

The Written Test, was taken in school by the accelerated 8th grade algebra class, and the 4 - 7th grade accelerated algebra students on the team. The top five scores are turned in to the high school on the day of the contest.

The Calculator Test is a test of 15 questions, requiring the use of calculators, to solve more difficult problems. This shows ones ability to understand the many aspects of the manipulation of their calculator. Knowledge of the functions of the various keys is necessary.

The Quickie Contest is a test of 50 questions. The students are given 30 seconds to answer each problem that is shown on a screen.

There is a mixed school part of the contest where the students work in teams with others from all of the participating schools. This encourages camaraderie amongst the schools

Taking the top 5 scores from each test, and combining them together acquire school totals.

There were over 90 students participating, and a total of 4 middle schools and three private schools, all of which feed into Niles West.
