Week #2
Submitted by Mr MacCrimmon on Sun, 2008-02-03 16:17.
6th GRADE
This week we start on figure drawing. Students will learn how to create gesture drawings first, and from go on to longer and more detailed drawings. The finished drawing will not be due until later this week.
7th GRADE
Students have been busy! We have discussed the differences between Fine Art and Commercial Art, and they have started an assignment in Commercial Art in which they will design the Lincolnwood Vehicle sticker for the upcoming year. Last year, a 7th grade student’s work was selected to be used as the official Village of Lincolnwood Vehicle registration sticker – it was nice to see the work students do here be used by the Village. They will finish the Commercial art project this week, and move on to ceramics next week.
8th GRADE ART
Students will finish their observational drawing project on scratch art paper this week. Students will then start their ceramics unit, and look at Maria Martinez, the famous Native American potter, and the work that she was known for - graceful containers with a black on black glaze decorated with various symbols from the Hopi culture. After discussing how the ceramics Maria made reflected the culture that she was from, students are asked to reflect some of their own personality in a container they design that resembles something with meaning in their life. In other words the container should look like some real object, but still function as a container.
8th GRADE VIDEO TECH
Has just started to produce their first video. Our quiz on Video and TV history as well as camera usage and video terms will be this next week due to our snow day last week! Those who receive a “B” or better and have their equipment contract in and signed by parents are able to check out a video camera outside of class when needed to complete a video tech project.
