SKILLS-3/2-3/5

This week, District #74 begins ISAT week. Please make sure your child has enough sleep, a good breakfast and his/her supplies for the tests this week. They will need to bring 3 to 4 sharpened #2 pencils, an eraser, and an independent reading book.

SKILLS-2/22 - 2/25

This week will be our second and final week of in-class research on the country/Olympics project. After this week, students will be on their own to complete their research and finalize their project which is due on March 12.

Most students have used our class time wisely and have utilized the computers, books, files, watching the Olympics on television, or reading about it in the newspapers or magazines wisely.

SKILLS-2/15-2/19

SKILLS classes have been practicing note taking for the last two weeks. Toward the end of last week, classes chose countries that are competing in the Winter Olympics to begin research and use their note taking skills.

This week, we will be researching various countries and finding specific information about their country and participation in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Each student has a packet of information and questions to research. We will be using class time to do this, but students are encouraged to use the internet and library on their own.

SKILLS - 2/1-2/5

In SKILLS, we are continuing our study on current and global issues. After completing a study about Haiti, we are exploring space and the 'Space Junk' that several countries have contributed to. What are the solutions to this problem and how can we avoid and protect our atmosphere in the future.

SKILLS - 1/19-1/21

This very short week, we began our Global Awareness/Current Events Unit. Unfortunately, timing is everything. With the earthquake in Haiti, the students are ready to spring into action and become those that "make a difference". In preparation, we worked on map skills last week and discovered where Haiti is and how the tectonic plates work in the ocean. We discovered that Haiti occupies approximately one third of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, while the Dominican Republic occupies the other two thirds on the eastern side. Surrounded by water, Haiti virtually could do nothing.
