Advanced Reading/LA Classroom News

The Advanced Reading class has begun a study of class systems and cloning through the novels House of the Scorpion and 1984. We have had class discussions and written dialogues explaining our understanding of these issues. We begin George Orwell's novel Friday, and will discuss study guide questions as we read.

We have begun a study of pronouns in the Advanced LA class. Students took a pre-test, and those who did not reach 80% or better were given a study packet and time in class to work and ask questions. The post-test is next week.

This week, Reading classes practiced skills, such as author's purpose and historical context, by reading short stories. Today we will read "All Summer in a Day." Next week, we will read "My First Free Summer."

In LA, we will have a Punctuation test on Wednesday and will then begin the study of Nouns. Students completed two papers using the trait of voice, and will begin the trait of word choice next week.
