Thursday, September 2nd........What did we do?

Homework: Answer questions 1-11 on page 9 of your chemistry textbook. Use your notebook to write your answers.

-We started class by having a post-lab discussion about lab number 1. We talked about density and what this means to students.

-We then finished our lab titled "Finding Volume." Students were calculating the volume of solid objects using a ruler and the water displacement method.

-When students were done with the lab they could start on their homework.

Wednesday, September 1st........What did we do?

Homework: None

-Today we started class by getting our passwords for the Senteo (hand held remote device that allows students to answer questions and get immediate feedback on their understanding) as well as for the online science website.

-We then had our first open-note quiz using the Senteos. Students were allowed to use their concept map they completed for homework last night as well as their first lab sheet on the quiz. The quiz had 20 questions.

Tuesday, August 31st.......What did we do?

Homework:  Read pages 4-9 in your chemistry textbook.  Then complete the concept map worksheet using those pages.  A concept map is a graphic way of taking notes.  We experiment with several types of note-taking strategies this year in science.  This is the first type we will use.  Be ready to have an open note quiz using your concept map and your lab sheet titled "Student Sheet for Lab #1."   (15 minutes)

Monday, August 30th.....What did we do?

Homework:  None

-Today in class we went over the conclusion section of the Self-Starting Siphon lab. Students read from their lab reports and then turned in this assignment.

-We then began our first lab.  This was in introductory lab to get students familiar with the name of lab equipment as well as how to use a graduated cylinder and triple beam balance.

Thursday, August 26th......What did we do?

Homework: Finish your "Black Bottle Lab Sheet" if you didn't get it done in class.

-Today we started class by collecting the homework titled "Getting to Know your Chemistry Textbook."

-We then read the page in our syllabus about my blog, if you are absent, and the different levels of work in science.

-We then had our first demonstration. Students have to try and solve the Black Bottle puzzle and explain how this demonstration worked. Students had about 10 minutes to work on this homework assignment in class.
