Another great workshop

Before we leave for winter break, I wanted to give you a head's up about a great workshop being presented at Niles North.  The title is "Internet Safety - What Parents Need to Know".  It is being held on Tuesday, January 29th from 7-8:30pm at Niles North.  The presenter is Amber Haqqani from Attorney General Lisa Madigan's Office.  I have heard great things about this presentation and think it would be beneficial for all.  Please consider attending and take a look at the attached flyer.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable winter break and looking forward to seeing everyone in the new year.

Great parenting resource

Parents are often asking for information on how to communicate with their child, issues of discipline, etc.  One Tough Job is a great parenting website filled with information on raising infants through teenagers.  Make sure you check it out and see what it has to offer.

Depression in adolescents

I recently put together a list of signs and symptoms of depression in adolescents.  I shared this information with our staff and thought it would be beneficial for parents to have as well.  If you have any concerns that your child is depressed, please feel free to call me for more guidance on this issue.  See attachment for signs and symptoms.

Upcoming Workshops

Niles Township High Schools, Dist #219, put on a number of workshops through out the year that are open to the parents and staff of Lincoln Hall. I will post the flyers as they come available. Many of them seem very worthile for parents of middle schoolers.

The first workshop is entitled "Motivating & Organizing the Underachiever" and takes place Tuesday, November 27, from 7-8:30pm at Niles North. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Helping your child through early adolesence

The U.S. Department of Education's website has great resources on how parents can help their child through school during all stages.  Helping your child through early adolescence is a pamphlet you can read on line or you can order a free copy through the mail.  It gives helpful hints on communicating with your child, helping your child build confidence and motivation, etc.  Take some time to browse through the other publications on the Dept. of Education's website and see what else they have to offer.  It is a great, free resource!
