Week of May 19

Congratulations!!! All the students did a fantastic job on their Dinosaur research project.  Each student completed a cover page, outline, research paper, and source page.  They should be very proud of themselves.

Next week, we will be starting our Poetry unit.  The students will read, write, and share many styles of poetry.

Week of May 5

Happy Spirit Week!!!!

The children are working very hard on their dinosaur projects. Last Friday, the outlines were due and now we are working on writing the paper. The final steps will be the source page and cover page. Please ask your child about the project. They should be very proud of their work.

Week of March 17th

After Spring Break, third quarter will end. During 4th quarter we will have our Dinosaur Research Unit. During this 10-week unit, the students will learn the skills necessary to complete a research paper. They will research books and Internet sites. They will learn how to make note cards, source cards, outlines, and reference lists. These skills will be the foundation for their science fair projects next year. It is the expectation of the reading and language arts teachers that all students complete this paper and that it is completed in school. I have attached a calendar with deadlines for each component of the paper. If the students stay with the schedule, they should all have a completed paper by May 16.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

There will be no homework over the break.  Teachers try to wrap up most units before a long break from school.  But, Tuesday will be a library day.  Your child should have a new book picked out from the school library.  The vacation is a good time for some relaxing reading after indulging in turkey and stuffing.

Week of November 12

I want to thank you for taking the time to come in for parent teacher conferences. It was wonderful to meet all of you and have the opportunity to discuss your children.

This week we are beginning to look at the trait of Word Choice. This trait focuses on descriptive language and vivid verbs. The children should be writing in a way that helps the reader visualize.

Last week, the children took a quiz on the different types of sentences. This week, we will begin to study nouns.

Please remember to read every night. This can include novels, newspapers, magazines, or internet articles.

Week of October 15 -19

This week, we are wrapping up a unit on punctuation and our second writing trait of Organization.

Next week, we will begin a new grammar unit on types of sentences and begin the trait of Voice.
