Submitted by Mrs Choate on Tue, 2008-04-29 21:22.In reading, students have finished the research section of the dinosaur project and are now going to continue the process in language arts class. They will learn how to use the outline program in Word to make an outline of their research paper, and then go on to writing the paper and the reference page.
We will also begin reading a radio play and studying the elements of drama, and then finish the year off studying and writing poetry.Â
Students listened to some original radio plays from the early 1900s. If you go to botar.us you can listen to more.Â
Let's end the year working hard and having fun learning!Â

Submitted by Mrs Choate on Tue, 2008-04-01 13:49.I hope everyone had a restful spring break. Â With two months left, we will be very busy.
In reading, students will be working in the library researching their dinosaur using many sources and properly preparing note cards and source cards.
In language arts, students are working in groups to publish their own Lincoln Hall newspaper. We are also finishing adverbs and will begin studying prepositions.
Don't forget to study for your weekly spelling test.Â

Reading: This month the class is reading fantasy and science fiction stories. We are learning about the elements of these two genres. We also continue to work on vocabulary.
 Language Arts: Students are writing a fictional short story. The stories are either science fiction or fantasy to match what we are learning in reading class. In grammar, we just finished studying adjectives and have begun adverbs.Â

3/3-3/7: Science Fiction: We will learn the elements of science fiction while reading "User Friendly" in out literature book.

3/10-3/14: Fantasy: We will learn the elements of fantasy while reading "Enchanted Raisin" in our literature book.

3/17-4/4: Research Prep: We will learn how to read informational text with research questions in mind. Students will learn how to make note cards and source cards and to avoid plagiarism.

LANGUAGE ARTS
3/3-3/14: Creative writing unit: Students will write their own science fiction or fantasy short story using the elements of the genre and the parts of a short story.

February News
Submitted by Mrs Choate on Tue, 2008-02-05 19:55.This month in reading we are reviewing reading strategies and comprehension skills, along with continuing work in our vocabulary workbook. The test for unit 9 will be  on February 14. Then we will begin the next unit.

In language arts we just finished the pronoun unit and a unit on persuasive essays. In February we will work on adjectives, adverbs, and narrative essays. Don't forget there is a spelling test ever week - so review your words each night.Â
